Chrysler Corporation – 1973 to 1975

Position:

                  Hired on college graduation as a Design Engineer in the Advanced Engine Design Group. Additional responsibilities with the Race Engine Group

 

Activity:

                  Entry level design and analysis position at Chrysler’s Highland Park (Detroit) Engineering Facility.

·         Design and analysis of engine components for advance (5+ years to production) engine concepts.

·         Design of pre-combustion chamber valve system for CVCC conept engine

·         Evaluate Honda CVCC patents and other confidential data

·         Associate in design of thermal reactor exhaust system compatible with CVCC concept engine

·         Design of thermal reactor exhaust manifolds for C-engine (Big Block)

·         Design of catalyst cans for various engines

·         Analysis of dynamic cylinder-to-cylinder timing tolerances as related to engine emissions

·         Water pump cost reduction design for B-engine

·         Write welding specification for catalyst cans

·         Perform heat transfer analysis of emission control equipment in engine compartment

·         Write and maintain Fortran program for tabular and graphic analysis of engine crankshaft and engine block induced loads

·         Perform stress and deflection analysis of production crankshafts

·         Write CDC 6600 software to calculate oil pump design and volume using epicycloids and hypocycloid shapes nested and rotated within each other

·         Design cast crankshaft for 225-slant six engine for weight and cost reduction

·         Evaluate cranshaft design and block loading for competitive 4-cylinder engines

·         Dis-assemble, photograph, and document competitive European and domestic engines

·         Technical support to Keith Black Racing

·         Technical support to Richard Petty

·         Relation between connecting rod length and maximum power for Tom Hoover

·         Technical presentation: “Analytical, Theoretical, and Experimental Relation between Compression Ratio and Otto Cycle Efficiency” prepared for A. Loofburrow (corporate VP) for presentation to US Congress.

·         Design and test valve train for Grand National (NASCAR) and Pro-Stock (drag racing) engines for use in “Kit Car”

·         Perform kinetic analysis of cylinder head, push rod, and tappet motion for high-lift valve train

·         Perform rocker iling analysis of high-lift valve train

·         Associate in design of valve train for W-3 cylinder heads used in Formula 5000 engine

                        Associate in desing of 6-liter Hemi-head engine for NASCAR
